Digital Camera LCD and viewfinder are black?

I have a Canon PowerShot S2 IS. It just started giving me trouble a few days ago. I tried pressing the Disp button but nothing happened. No, the lens cap is not on. The camera is charged. The setting to playback pictures and videos still works but taking pictures is a problem. I tried changing some setting but that didn't help. What could be the problem and how could I fix it.
