I would have to say this is my first digital, and my first non-SLR camera. I was very skeptical about the whole thing but this camera is very cool. There are so many options I still haven't gotten to them all. The pictures are very crisp, the design pretty intuitive. I have only had to look a few things up, nothing that had to do with the basic use of the camera. I would have to say it is not my SLR (I am still trying to get use to working with lighting for digital, depth of field, and other things I do with my EOS), but for something smaller than my wallet it is amazing! I use the video as much as I do the camera. I would advise getting a very large SD card to make the video worth it. I also take all my pictures on the highest resolution format so that I can better manipulate them in Photoshop. I thought about the SD500, but for the extra $100 1.0 megapixels is not worth it. This point and shoot will give you everything you need in a really small package.
Pro : Small, Video increadible, Lots of features
Con : Have to take the battery out to charge it

This is my first digital camera and I love it. I did about 3 days of research online reading reviews like this one and checking out prices. I ended up makeing an educated decision and am happy with the "digital elph". Great size, great features and very clear pics. The battery life is good enough for me I can get over a 100 pics per charge. The only con about a digital camera is the optical zoom. I would never buy a camera that has any less than 3X optical zoom. My advice to anyone who is even thinking about buying this camera go for it you wont regret it :)
Pro : Size, quality or pics
    Con : none so far

I just got this camera a week ago and am totally thrilled with it. After a brief read through on the Quick Guide directions provided I was all ready to begin taking pictures. This camera is really easy to use! My 4 year old can work it. I had an older Olympus and my parents have a HP and neither can even compare to this one in any way. I would absolutely recommend this camera to anyone who wants a easy to use, lightweight, functional camera!
Pro : Easy to use. Great Pics!
    Con : None found yet

I absolutely LOVE this camera. This is my first digital camera purchase, and now I wonder how the heck I ever did without this. Ever since I bought this for a marathon, I've been taking this EVERYWHERE. It's so small, light, i can easily keep it in my purse. (Who needs a lousy camera phone?) If not in my purse, it fits easily in my front jean pocket. Absolutely love the ease of use, capturing pics and videos on the spot, ease of uploading to computer, size of screen, controls… It was totally worth the $400 (w/tax) that i spent on this. I'd mentioned i bought this for a marathon–it's so small and light, i carried it on my fuel belt (in a little zip pouch) EASILY for 26.2 miles and it was amazing. Best thing to have, next to Gu! If i could ask for one thing–if Canon could create a rubber shell (similar to what you see for iPods) for the camera. It's so small, I'm always afraid I'll bang it on something or drop it…
Pro : Size, portability, controls, video feature, ease of uploading
Con : Memory card with purchase is chintzy. My friends want to borrow it, they like it so much.

I've had 3 olympuses in the past but my last olympus took really bad night shots. I checked the reviews and everyone seem to like the canon sd series. The only negative remarks were regarding the lcd breaking, but so far (3 weeks) I've had no problems. I did purchase a lcd protector just in case. I really like this camera and recommend it.
Pro : compact, great images, design
Con : none that I can think of now

The camera's lens mechanism broke twice with no provocation. I just turned it on and the lens would eject halfway and stop. Both times happened just shortly out of warranty and I was asked to pay $165 to fix it each time. The second time was only 4 months after they had just replaced it the first time. When I called in, no one was organized, no one knew where to send me to get help and I spent several hours on the phone trying to correct the problem. At one point they didn't even know where my camera was. It did not appear to me that they were concerned with this fact so I have decided to purchase a different brand. I will not buy another Canon product. When the camera was working I thought it was a decent camera. Limited in its manual features, but it did what a good point and shoot camera should do. The pictures were also pretty nice.
Pro : size, easy to use
    Con : limited manual features

This camera is very impressive so far. The pictures I have taken have been very sharp and the color has been accurate. The video is just about the best I've seen on a small digital with minimal pixelation and very good clarity. I also like the fact that you can use the zoom function while recording video.

I do think the price on this unit should be just a bit lower, though, as there is no built-in memory which requires that you buy a large SD card if you want to take movies of more than a few seconds. I am also a bit disappointed that I had to use the USB cable that was provided by Canon. I tried 6 different USB cables in my office and none of them worked with this camera, even though they all worked with various other USB devices, including an SD card reader.

Overall, this camera is a great little gadget and I would definitely recommend it to anyone for whom size DOES matter, but backwards, like in the spy world.
    Pro : Size, Features, Screen
Con : Must remove battery for charging, no built-in memory

Purshased this camera on a Friday evening (09/02/05). Charged it overnight. Packed it up on Saturday morning to take on short weekend trip. Removed from padded camera bag and went to take first picture. NOTHING. Tried to return to store after long weekend and was shut out. Told that LCD was cracked and that I had dropped the camera (not even close to what happened)! This camera could not have been treated with any more care other than never removing it from the box it came in.

Got the run around from the store (Circuit City) for over a week. Finally, after contacting Mass Atty Genl's office and citing consumer protection laws, and simply not giving in… got a full refund.

Subsequent research indicates that the SD series LCD is notorious for spontaneous failures (many, many hits on 100, 200, 300 in particular, 400 and 500 series cameras). Try a google search on (digital + camera + lcd + crack). Did not find this issue for any other camera other than a few where the camera had
Pro : Features, Size, and Price
    Con : LCD is defective

My husband and I purchased this camera to inspire us to start taking more pictures of our friends and family. We have taken more pictures in the last 6 months, than we have in the last 4 years!! This camera is amazing. The picture quality is great, and it's VERY user friendly. We had seen in other reviews that the battery does not hold it's charge for very long. We did not experience this issue at all. We followed the instructions carefully when charging the batter for the first 2 times, and have found that it has a long life! This camera has become our favorite "toy". Money well spent, for memories that will last a lifetime!
    Pro : everything!!
    Con : none

I have both the 400 and the 500. I used them everywhere and I find then to generate outstanding photos. I have no complaints. Easy to use, easy to carry(everything could be a little smaller and a little lighter). I also have the canon ? (the 5 meg adjustable one) sits in the closet – too much of a hassle with the removeable lens cover and twisting view finder and all the stuff I thougt I would need, yep, it sits in the closet with its army of logistics to recharge the battery. Give me the small ones any time.
Pro : reliable, easy to use, great results, auto lens cover
Con : could be smaller, and lighter
