Digital camera to replace APS camera?
I have this wonderful little Canon Elf APS film camera. The film is getting hard to come by and flying with 800 film is getting to be a hassle.I would move to a digital camera, but I can't figure out if the digitals will do what my puny little automatic does.
With the elf, you can choose a panorama shot, and that is what you will see in the viewfinder. Then, somehow, when the photos are printed, the panorama shots are printed as 4 x 11 pictures.
I'd like to switch, but I use the panorama shots alot when I travel.
I found lots of good information here.

Yes, I used one of those and loved it because of the capability to do panoramic pictures. The down side is that you have to buy the film and pay for it to be developed and all your pictures maybe not be the way you want them.
Digital is much better because you can take the pictures over and over again until you get it right. And you can still do panoramic with a digital. You just have to use a program on your computer to combine the pictures. You can even make it a bigger panaramic if you want (taller and wider). You can use most any photo editing program. I use Digital Image Pro 10. Even if your digital camera doesn't take black and white photos, you can edit them later and add almost any effect you want.
Oh yea, one downside to consider with the panoramic is that if you want it to turn out perfect, you really need a tripod. But you can still get good ones with out a tripod.
So my advise is to go with digital. They are getting very affordable now. And to be more specific, go with atleast a 4.1 megapixel. You will be able to take some great pictures with it and save money on film in the long run. Hope this helps!

Just get a digital camera, use a wide angle setting and crop out the top and bottom of your picture until it has the panoramic proportions you want. The Elph has a fairly mild wide angle lens. I don't remember exactly what it is, but the "35 mm equivalent" can't be wider than about 28-35 mm. This is easily attainable in the digital world, as almost all P&S digitals start about there.
Oddly enough, I used to use the panoramic mode on my Elph to force a telephoto view. I just took a panoramic photo in the maximum zoom setting (which is not very much…) and then cut off the ends of the panoramic print. This is just the opposite of what you will be doing in digital.
